Cheaper By the Dozen – Starring Myrna Loy
Image result for cheaper by the dozen 1950 images

My dad was the 12th of 13 children in his family.
My mom was the 6th of 7 children in her family.
I grew up with incredibly fun family reunions.
And I also grew up wanting to have 13 children like my Grandma Hilda Kunz.
These films reminds me of that dream. love this film on so many levels.
I love how intimately involved the dad is in wanting the best for his family and
spending time and thought and effort to make sure they are the best they can be.
I love what a strong woman, what and "I can do anything" attitude the mom has.
I love the love this family shows one to another.
I love the wonderfully different and yet important personalities that we get to
experience.
I love happy, successful family movies and this is definitely one of them.

If you love Cheaper by the Dozen you will want to see the sequel

Judgment at Nuremberg - Starring Spencer Tracy

Judgment at Nuremberg

I love films that Spencer Tracy is in.  He often seems to pick films that have very worthwhile concepts to discuss.

This is a film about the trails at Nuremberg for the Nazi leaders after World War II.  One of the many themes of this movie is personal responsibility and whether people should have to have consequences for their actions and pay some kind of restitution; or whether the guilt of one is the guilt of all, and no one should throw the first stone.

Does the concept of obeying orders of government relieve a person of the responsibility of obeying the commandments of God?  To whom to we owe our greatest loyalty?

Does might make right?  Because something is expedient does that make it right?

Here is the official trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfOgZXIQ6fo

Here are some quotes that I love from the movie

** Judge Haytood – “There are those in our own country, too..who today speak of the protection of country, of survival.  A decision must be made in the life of every nation...at the very moment when the grasp of the enemy is at its throat. Then it seems that the only way to survive is to use the means of the enemy...to rest survival upon what is expedient, to look the other way.

The answer to that is: Survival as what? A country isn't a rock. It's not an extension of one's self. It's what it stands for. It's what it stands for when standing for something is the most difficult.

Before the people of the world…let it now be noted...that here in our decision, this is what we stand for: Justice...truth...and the value of a single human being.”

** Judge Haywood – “But to be logical is not to be right.
And nothing on God's earth could ever make it right.”

** Herr Jenning – “I never knew it would come to that.
You must believe it.”
Judge Haywood - “Herr Janning...
it came to that the first time you sentenced a man to death...you knew to be innocent.”

Sherwood Pictures

Sherwood Pictures

I love good Christian movies.  I was first introduced to Sherwood Pictures by one of my friends when she lent me her movie Fireproof and told me that she loved it.  I started watching the movie and I hated it.   I don’t want to tell you why I hated it.  But if you are like most women if you start watching Fireproof you will come to a point where you hate the movie because you are so disappointed in one of the characters.  May I tell you that if you keep watching I think your feelings will change.  This is not a bent movie.  It is one of my favorite movies on being a good man, on being a good husband.  I love what the movie has to say about the power or change.  If your marriage is in trouble, or even if it isn’t, I can’t recommend this movie high enough.

Andy Hardy Movies - Starring Mickey Rooney

Andy Hardy movies are about Andy Hardy, the boy next door type, and the adventures and scrapes he gets into.

Here is a typical scene representative of morals in Andy Hardy movies.  It is from a public service announcement but it still shows typical interaction between the dad and the son.  Here is “Andy trying to persuade his father to give him $200 for a car. Instead, his father took him on a tour of several charities that needed the money more. After each visit to a charity, the car Andy wanted to buy became more and more decrepit.”

1.       We love quiet commonsense wisdom that Andy’s parents have.

2.       We love that Andy’s parents are older than most parents today.

3.       We love the scrapes that Andy gets into and the lessons he learns in getting out of them – wise is the person who can learn from others examples – whether good or bad.

4.       We love the respectful behavior and for the most part good character that the youth in these movies have.

I’m sure you will not agree with everything that Andy Hardy does.  We don’t either.  But Andy Hardy movies do provide a good spring board for discussions about your family values.

Here are the Andy Hardy movies that were produced

  2. You're Only Young Once (1937)
  3. Judge Hardy's Children (1938)
